Rare Guitar Finds Its Way Home After Many Years from Guitars and Cars American Icons

February 16th, 2012

Sioux Falls, South Dakota (PRWEB) February 13, 2012

Everyone knows the clich?d story about the one that got away. You know, the high school sweetheart or the old car that everyone wishes they had held on to, but youths foolishness got in the way. Guitars and Cars American Icons has a story too good to be true.

For Sioux Falls musician and guitar teacher Jesse Christen, the one that got away wasnt the prom queen or a hot-rodded car, it was a guitar.

The special guitar is 1978 BC Rich Eagle Supreme. Very few of these handmade guitars were ever produced.

I worked in a greasy spoon restaurant to buy that guitar, Christen says. I had my senior pictures taken with it. In December 1992, Christen saved up enough money to purchase the guitar just in time for his senior pictures.

But Christen and his beloved guitar parted ways only a couple of short years later thanks to youths foolishness. He sold the guitar to fund the purchase of another.

Not realizing how rare these guitars really were, Christen has always regretted selling it. To this day, Ive only seen a couple other examples in person. And this guitar is the only one Ive ever seen in person with the fancier inlays and bound neck.

But out of all the guitars he has owned over the past twenty years, this particular one has always held a soft spot in his heart. And when the world went to the Internet in the late 90s, the search for his old friend began.

After all these years, Christen wondered what had ever happened to the guitar. Did a collector have it? Well, the guitar led a very interesting life from the time Christen sold it until the present day.

In early January, the guitar was listed in an online advertisement. And every grain of wood matched.

Christen called the number listed in the ad and spoke to the current owner. “He said he a some attachment to the guitar since he played it onstage with Rod Stewart at Madison Square Garden”, Christen says.

It turns out the guitar belonged to Oliver Leiber, who is the son of the legendary songwriter Jerry Leiber. Besides his stint as Rod Stewarts guitarist, Leiber is also an accomplished record producer and songwriter; who even produced and wrote a number of former American Idol judge and 90s pop star Paula Abduls biggest hits. Currently a member of the band fDeluxe, Leibers band includes former members of Prince and the Revolution and Morris Day and the Time.

I just put it up online to see if anyone was interested in [the guitar], Leiber says. I wasnt sure if I wanted to sell it because I played that guitar onstage at Madison Square Garden with Rod [Stewart].

After reciting the serial number from memory and it matched, Christen purchased the guitar back from Leiber. Now that the guitar is back home, what plans does Christen have for it?

He plans on playing it, and this time he’s not letting this one go.

PLAYING FOR CHANGE 2012 Back to Our Roots Tour Stops At Berklee Performance Center (Boston)

    February 16th, 2012

Boston, MA (PRWEB) February 10, 2012

Scullers Jazz Club presents PLAYING FOR CHANGE featuring street performers from all over the world at Berklee Performance Center, 136 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts, Friday, March 2 at 8:00 pm. Tickets at $ 45.00 and $ 35.00 are on sale now at http://www.berkleebpc.com, by calling 6177473161 or at the Berklee Performance Center Box Office

Producer Mark Johnsons Playing for Change: Songs from Around the World, released in 2009, established a forum for street musicians from around the globe, the invisible army of raw talent that exists outside the conventional margins of the music business. Among those raw talents was vocalist Clarence Milton Bekker, a native of Suriname who developed his craft in his adopted homeland of Holland and eventually crossed paths with Johnson on the streets of Barcelona.

Propelled by the strength of his performances on Playing for Change – and his subsequent performances as part of the internationally touring Playing for Change Band – Bekker steps into the spotlight for a solo album, Old Soul, (Playing For Change/ Concord Music Group) set for release on February 28, 2012.

Recorded in Santa Monica, California, Old Soul captures the vintage American soul music that awakened Bekkers musical consciousness when he was still a young boy in Holland in the 1970s and early 80s. Producers Reggie McBride and Mark Johnson, assisted by a crew of veteran soul musicians directly connected to that seminal period, take Bekker on a trip back in time to revisit the powerful sounds originally crafted by iconic figures like Otis Redding, Al Green, Sam and Dave, and many others.

The 2012 Playing For Change Band lineup will feature renowned and wildly diverse musicians from around the world, making stops in major cities across the USA and Canada including Chicago, New York, Boston, Toronto, and Pittsburgh. The lineup includes:

Grandpa Elliott (vocals/harmonica) – USA. Clarence Milton Bekker (vocals) – The Netherlands. Mermans Mosengo (vocals/guitar/percussion) – Congo. Jason Tamba (vocals/guitar) – Congo. Titi Tsira (vocals) – South Africa. Peter Bunetta (drums) – USA. Reggie McBride (bass) – USA. Tom Canning (keyboards) – USA. Renard Poche (lead guitar) – USA. Louis Mhlanga (flying guitar) – Zimbabwe

The group’s first single in 2009, an interpretation of the Ben E. King classic “Stand By Me,” saw a pastiche of musicians from around the world contributing verses using a mobile recording studio manned by producer Mark Johnson, who co-founded Playing For Change. The video has since accumulated over 38 million views on YouTube, with all Playing for Change “Around the World” videos generating a total of 100 million + views.

Artists including Bono, Stephen Marley, Ziggy Marley, Toots Hibbert, Taj Mahal, Keb’ Mo’, Vusi Mahlasela, and Manu Chao have collaborated on Playing For Change recordings, the most recent being 2011′s ‘Playing For Change 2: Songs Around The World’ (Hear Music/Playing For Change Records). Clarence Milton Bekker, a prolific and soulful Dutch singer who is featured on the album and tour, will also release his own new album ‘Old Soul’ in 2012, featuring reinterpretations of R&B classics such as Otis Redding’s “Try a Little Tenderness” and Sam & Dave’s “Hold On, I’m Comin’.”

In 2007, the Playing For Change Foundation was formed as a separate non-profit organization that creates and supports music schools all over the world, particularly in developing countries. Its mission is to ensure that anyone with the desire to receive an education in music has the opportunity to do so, based on the fundamental idea that peace and change are possible through the universal language of music.

Legendary Christian Metal Band Bloodgood Reunites to Record and Tour — Stryper’s Oz Fox Joins the Lineup

      February 16th, 2012

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) February 27, 2007

Bloodgood exploded onto the Christian music scene when they opened for Stryper in the Pacific Northwest in 1985, after which they recorded their 4-song EP, Metal Missionaries. It was Christian music veteran Darrell Mansfield who brought Michael Bloodgood (bass), Les Carlsen (vocals), David Zaffiro (guitar) and J.T. Taylor (drums) to Los Angeles to record their self-titled debut album for Frontline Records. Bloodgood dared to take Christian hard rock to the next level of intensity and boldness, featuring a more street metal sound not found in any other Christian releases. Stryper had paved the way for commercial metal bands, but Bloodgood opened the doors for the sounds that would eventually lead to speed and thrash metal to be accepted in the Christian market.

In 1987, the band followed their national debut with their most successful album, Detonation. Bloodgood hit the road for their first major tour, which almost proved to be their last. Prior to the start of the tour, a popular television evangelist spoke out against them, and protestors began to picket their shows. National media outlets soon came to see what all the fuss was about, but even with all the press, there was no tour circuit for a Christian metal band to tap into so the schedule was filled with dates that were poorly promoted.

“When we left on our first tour back in ’87, we had three families in our 22′ RV,” says Michael. “To say it stretched us would be an understatement! But we were determined to carry on and no matter where we ended up, we could see the Lord’s hand on us.”

Making it from one city to the next was a financial struggle, but the band saw the fruits of their ministry as many hardcore unsaved teens came to know the Lord. With that, the band built a reputation as one of the best performing bands and most effective youth ministry’s in Christian music.

Several successful projects followed including Rock In A Hard Place, Out of the Darkness and the groundbreaking live double album and video Alive in America and Shakin’ the World. After leaving Frontline Records, Bloodgood signed with Broken Records and recruited such talent as producer Biff Vincent, Grammy Award-winning engineer Charlie Watts and legendary drummer David Huff. In 1991, the band went on to record their critically acclaimed album All Stand Together, which produced numerous radio hits including “I Want To Live In Your Heart” and “S.O.S.” International touring continued and in 1993, Bloodgood released To Germany With Love, featuring live performances from the final tour of Germany.

Bloodgood has left its mark on the Christian rock music industry. Many of the newer rock bands continue to look them as examples on how to conduct a viable and effective rock and roll ministry. Though inactive as a touring unit since 1993, the band’s catalogue has continued to sell through a series of re-releases. In the interim years, Michael became the senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Redmond and Les went on to star in the musical HAIR on Broadway, and established a successful art distribution company in Southern California.

In 2005, Michael was stricken with a near-fatal arterial dissection that left him ill for over four months, leading to paralysis of his left vocal cord. Barely able to talk over a whisper for nearly a year, Michael has since recovered the use of his voice. In addition to pending Bloodgood projects, he is currently working on a worship album along with guest artists including Les and current drummer Mark Welling.

Now, after thirteen years, Bloodgood is back, though they never really left. The band recently acquired the services of Ricky B. Rogers and Fused Management, and they are looking forward to performing live and recording a new album. They have also welcomed a new member. Though not leaving Stryper, Oz Fox is excited to become a part of Bloodgood and will be writing and performing with the band.

A new record is planned for release in 2007, and the band will begin touring this summer, including a headlining performance on the HM Stage at this year’s Cornerstone Festival. With nearly 1 million records sold, Bloodgood is looking forward to getting back on the road and reconnecting with fans who have supported the band through the years.

“Even though it’s been thirteen years since our last performance, the Lord continues to use our music and ministry to touch lives,” says Michael. “Not a day goes by that I don’t hear from someone who has been touched by our music, either back in the day, or just recently.”

Top Guitar Teacher Dyce Kimura Now Available for Guitar Lessons via Skype for Parkland & Weston Residents

        February 16th, 2012

Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) February 13, 2012

Dyces Parkland guitar lessons are crystal-clear, and easy to follow. Instead of focusing on endless theory and scales; Dyce gives beginning guitarists real music to playfrom their very first lesson. He begins with just one or two simple-to-play chords that sound great. He then shows students how to put these chords together. In no time, students find that they are playing hip, interesting, foot-tapping grooves. In fact, within just a few lessons, most students are playing real songs; classics that everyone knows and loves.

Many students dont realize that their first guitar teacher can have an incredible impact on their future musical experience. Dyce Kimuras Weston guitar lessons are way ahead of most teachers lessons: he makes the guitar fun, and his students get results.

Dyces guitar lessons for the absolute beginner are crafted with the big picture in mind. Each lesson plan flows logically to the next. Students learn the guitar the right way: building on concepts, reinforcing knowledge, and building confidence.

The response to Dyces Parkland and Skype guitar lessons is amazing: students love the fact thatwithin almost no time at allthey are playing songs that friends instantly recognize, and sing along with.

Dyce Kimura is a full-time guitar instructor, and one of Miamis most in-demand guitar rock and blues player. When Dyce is not teaching others, he can be found playing Christian contemporary, praise and worship music, and serving as both ministry and worship leader.

Besides being Ft. Lauderdales most in-demand guitar teacher, he is now providing webcam guitar lessons to students throughout Parkland and Weston via Skype. Dyces 1-on-1 Skype guitar lessons are popular for a reason: they make learning just so easy. All that is required is a high-speed internet connection, a webcam and micstandard on any newer computer, a Skype account (easy to create), and headphones (optional).

For more information on Dyces guitar lessons, call 786 457 3687 today.

New Video Captures Action and Inspiration Behind Major Northwest Dam Removals

              February 15th, 2012

Portland, OR (PRWEB) February 15, 2012

American Rivers, American Whitewater and the Hydropower Reform Coalition released a short film today that tells the story of historic dam removal successes on Washington’s Elwha and White Salmon rivers. The 7-minute film premiered at the Wild and Scenic Film Festival in January and is the final installment in the Year of the River series by Andy Maser.

              It is available at http://vimeo.com/34169308.

“People are hungry for positive news, and these river restoration stories are so inspiring,” said Amy Kober, senior communications director for American Rivers. “Our goal with the video was to share the good news and celebrate healthy, free-flowing rivers.

One of our objectives with this series of films was to highlight the different individuals who have a personal connection to these rivers, said Thomas OKeefe, Pacific Northwest Stewardship Director for American Whitewater. These two projects have been decades in the making, and we are thrilled to celebrate the success of river restoration from the perspective of those who are out enjoying these rivers.

As a paddler and adventure filmmaker, having the chance to witness and document these dam removals has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career, said filmmaker Andy Maser. My hope is that these films will continue to build momentum for more dam removals and support the efforts of people on the ground working hard to restore free-flowing rivers. Maser is also working on a long-term timelapse project documenting the removal of Condit Dam and the restoration of the White Salmon River and surrounding ecosystem.

The removal of two dams on the Elwha River the largest dam removal project in history began in September and is expected to take two to three years. Demolition of the White Salmon River’s Condit Dam began with a dramatic blast in October and will take one year.

The rivers are already beginning to restore themselves. Once the dams are completely removed, salmon and steelhead will have access to upstream habitat for the first time in 100 years. The Klallam people on the Elwha and the Yakama on the White Salmon will have vital parts of their culture and heritage restored. The free-flowing rivers will also create new fishing, paddling, and other recreation opportunities.

It sounds easy. "Let’s offer blogs to our community." But there are hazards that lurk beneath the groovy social software veneer:
              * Spammers never sleep
              * Workload for training and support – many users will have only a vague idea how to use these tools. Imagine the risks with students required to maintain weblogs.
              * Server and application maintenance – many IT units in academic institutions have little understanding or interest in sustaining tools such as these.

              Key questions:
              * What are the benefits of providing a blog service, when anyone can easily get their own blog elsewhere?
              * Could a school offer a weblog service without hosting? What other services would be needed?
              * What are the appropriate expectations of users of these services? What can reasonably be provided to them?
              * Just how amenable is the culture of the academy to blogging and other social software practices?
              * Are there special challenges in dealing with (ahem) ‘academic temperaments’ and technology? (Hint: you better believe it!)

Maybe you could take it to a guitar store or a guitar show when one comes to a place near you.

My mom purchased a cute “Child sized” black guitar from a fellow who was selling them on a street corner. It appears to be handmade (Not very good quality, but great for kids to start on). I need to know the name so that I can find a chord book/video.
It’s very small about 2ft long end to end
