Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Principal Pops conductor Jack Everly leads the BSO in a performance of the Gershwin Brothers most popular functions on Thursday, January five, 2012 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore and Friday, January 6 at 8 p.m., Saturday, January 7 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Pianist Stewart Goodyear and Broadway star Judy McLane join the BSO in a jazz-filled program devoted to the greatest hits from the George and Ira Gershwin Songbook, including They Cant Take That Away From Me, An individual to Watch Over Me and much more. Brothers Ira and George Gershwin collaborated together to create some of the most memorable songs of the 20th century. Their fascinating rhythms will fill the air as pianist Stewart Goodyear performs Rhapsody in Blue, one of the very first pieces to bring a distinctively American sound to the classical concert hall, introducing new elements to classical music such as jazz and pop rhythms. Goodyear attracted much attention in 2010 when he performed 32 Beethoven sonatas more than five consecutive days at the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival, a feat he said was akin to coaching like an athlete, developing mental, emotional and physical stamina. In addition, Broadway star Judy McLane also showcases jazzy showstoppers that have bewitched the classical globe. Ms. McLane is presently in the hit Broadway musical Mamma Mia!, playing the role of Tanya.
Jack Everly, conductor
Jack Everly is the Principal Pops Conductor of the Baltimore and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestras, Naples Philharmonic Orchestra and National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa), and the Music Director of the National Memorial Day Concert and A Capitol Fourth on PBS.
Mr. Everly is the Music Director of Yuletide Celebration, now a 26-year tradition. These theatrical symphonic holiday concerts are presented annually in December in Indianapolis and are observed by a lot more than 40,000 concert-goers.
Initially appointed by Mikhail Baryshnikov, Mr. Everly was conductor of the American Ballet Theatre for 14 years, exactly where he served as Music Director. Mr. Everly has teamed with Marvin Hamlisch in Broadway shows such as The Goodbye Girl, Theyre Playing Our Song, and A Chorus Line. He conducted Carol Channing hundreds of occasions in Hello, Dolly! in two separate Broadway productions.
Mr. Everly has conducted the songs for Disneys animated classic, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and led the Czech Philharmonic on the recordings In the Presence and Sandi Pattys 2011 release, Broadway Stories. He also conducted the critically praised Everythings Coming Up Roses: The Complete Overtures of Broadways Jule Styne.
In 1998, Jack Everly produced the Symphonic Pops Consortium, serving as Music Director. The Consortium, based in Indianapolis, produces a new theatrical pops plan every single season. In the past 12 years, far more than 225 performances of SPC programs have taken place across the U.S. and Canada, including this seasons new production Do You Hear the Folks Sing? featuring the greatest hits of Alain Boublil and Calude-Michel Sch?nberg.
Stewart Goodyear, piano
Identified for imagination, a graceful, sophisticated style and exquisite approach, Stewart Goodyear is an accomplished young artist whose career spans a lot of genresconcerto soloist, chamber musician, recitalist and composer.
Mr. Goodyear has performed with numerous of the significant orchestras of the globe including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Bournemouth Symphony, the Montreal Symphony, the Dallas Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony, the Detroit Symphony, the Seattle Symphony and the Largely Mozart Festival Orchestra among others.
He has appeared in recitals in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta, Poor Kissingen, and at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC and he has performed with the Festivals of Caramoor, Santa Fe, and Ravinia.
In addition to his talents as a pianist, Stewart is a composer and frequently performs his own functions, which includes his solo piano perform, “Variations on ‘Eleanor Rigby’, which premiered at Lincoln Center in New York in August 2000, and his Piano Sonata, both of which have received continual acclaim by critics and audiences alike.
Judy McLane, vocals
Judy McLane is presently starring on Broadway, playing the role of Tanya, in the hit musical, Mamma Mia! She received crucial acclaim for her efficiency as Vienna in Johnny Guitar Off-Broadway. She starred as Donna in the function film Had been the World Mine and has appeared on Broadway in Kiss of the Spider Woman, Aspects of Really like and Chess.
Her tours incorporate the Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods, the Narrator in Joseph and the Incredible Technicolor Dreamcoat with Donny Osmond, Mrs. Baskin in Big, and Side By Side By Sondheim. Ms. McLane has performed with several symphony orchestras including the Bolshoi Orchestra in Moscow, the National Orchestra of Lyon, France, National Symphony of Canada, National Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Ft. Worth, Indianapolis, Memphis, Milwaukee, Naples, Oklahoma City, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Seattle, St. Louis, Southwest Florida, Toronto, and Chautauqua Symphony Orchestras and Chess in Concert at Carnegie Hall. Television appearances include Guiding Light and An additional World. She can be heard on the recordings of Johnny Guitar and Sundance the Musical.
